Patna: Teachers working in government schools across Bihar have been instructed to submit detailed declarations of their assets and liabilities by December 31, with the education department warning that failure to comply will result in their January salaries being withheld.
The directive forms part of a broader initiative led by the Bihar Administrative Reforms Mission Society, under the general administration department, requiring all government officers and employees — including Group A officials — to disclose their movable and immovable property as part of a push to strengthen transparency and accountability in public service.
Under the order, teachers must provide details of assets such as cash holdings, bank deposits, vehicles and jewellery, as well as immovable property including land, houses or flats. They are also required to disclose any loans or other financial liabilities.
The education department has said the information must be submitted on plain A4 paper and uploaded at the relevant district office. A three-page declaration is mandatory, with teachers required to sign at the bottom of each page to authenticate the submission.
Officials said only teachers whose declarations are received by the deadline will be paid their January salary. Those who fail to submit the information by December 31 will have their pay withheld until compliance is ensured.
The asset disclosure exercise is being carried out across all state departments, with officials saying it is intended to promote transparency in government service and help identify irregularities in the future.
