Jamui: A tragic accident early on Friday morning claimed two lives in Bihar’s Jamui district, where dense fog is believed to have played a major role. The incidents happened near the western outer signal of Jamui railway station on the Jhajha–Kiul railway section, a busy stretch where trains pass frequently. Both accidents occurred within a short distance of each other, creating panic and fear among local residents.
According to local sources, the first incident took place in the Malaypur police station area. A man identified as Pali Singh, a resident of Thakuri Mati village, was crossing the railway tracks when he was hit by a speeding train. Due to poor visibility caused by thick fog, he reportedly failed to notice the approaching train. He died on the spot, leaving people in the area deeply shocked.
The second accident happened shortly after, about half a kilometre away from the first site. An unidentified man, believed to be around 55 years old, was also struck by a train while crossing the tracks. His identity is still unknown. Police are questioning local residents and checking missing person reports to establish who he was. A large crowd gathered at the scene after the accident, adding to the tense atmosphere.
After receiving information, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and local police rushed to the spot. Both bodies were taken into custody, necessary legal procedures were completed, and the bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital in Jamui for post-mortem examinations. Police officials said that early investigation suggests both deaths were caused by being hit by trains, but inquiries are continuing from all angles.
The incidents have once again raised concerns about safety around railway tracks, especially during winter mornings when fog is common. Local residents said such accidents could be avoided with better awareness and caution. The tragic deaths have left the area in mourning and highlighted the dangers faced by people crossing railway lines in poor weather conditions.
