Patna: The Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, has ordered authorities to fast-track construction on the tunnel being built to link the Bihar Museum with the Patna Museum, saying the project should be completed “at the earliest” and without disrupting road movement on Nehru Path.

During an inspection of the site in Patna on Friday, officials briefed Kumar on the current status of the subway tunnel at Hathatali Mor near Nehru Path. The passage is expected to allow visitors to walk seamlessly between the two museums, improving accessibility and boosting footfall.
Kumar said the tunnel must be executed with “special care and urgency, adding that the rise in expected tourist numbers will also require adequate parking, visitor facilities, and crowd management. “The work should be completed well and quickly. The project must not interfere with public movement on Nehru Path,” he said.

Before visiting the tunnel site, the Chief Minister reviewed the redevelopment of 80 residential units and an officers’ hostel complex opposite the Bihar Museum. Revised plans include an 11-storey building with solar parking sheds, open parking bays, and a clubhouse. The facilities are intended to replace older structures and expand housing capacity along the arterial road.

Kumar also toured the galleries insidethe Bihar Museum, where he viewed exhibits on Nalanda Mahavihara, the Sanchi Stupa, and a 3D film on the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya. Museum officials presented updates on newly curated displays, visitor numbers, and amenities.

Senior officials accompanying the inspection included the parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, museum director Anjani Kumar Singh, the chief minister’s principal secretary Deepak Kumar, and district and police leadership.
