Patna: The Bihar government has moved ahead with plans to redevelop the historic Gardanibagh Hospital in Patna, signalling a renewed push to modernise the state’s public healthcare system. The decades-old facility is expected to be demolished and replaced with a new three-storey hospital building, offering expanded and upgraded services.
Officials said a survey of the Gardanibagh hospital premises has already been conducted by a team from the Bihar Medical Services and Infrastructure Corporation Limited (BMSICL), the agency responsible for executing major health infrastructure projects in the state. The findings of the inspection have been submitted, clearing the way for construction work to begin in the coming months.
A senior official at Gardanibagh Hospital, confirmed that the hospital administration has formally sent its report to the authorities following the survey. “The proposal is for a new three-storey hospital building with better facilities than the existing structure,” he said, adding that preparations are being made to ensure minimal disruption to patient care during the transition.
As part of the redevelopment plan, the old hospital building was vacated in September, with services shifted to a nearby structure to allow for demolition and reconstruction. Officials say the new facility will be designed to provide improved patient flow, modern wards and enhanced diagnostic and treatment infrastructure.
Alongside the hospital project, renovation work is also expected to begin shortly on the Civil Surgeon’s office located near the Gardanibagh complex, further underlining the government’s focus on upgrading health-related administrative and clinical facilities in the capital.
