Patna: The death of a NEET aspirant in Patna has shocked Bihar after a post-mortem report revealed clear signs of severe physical and sexual violence. What was first suggested by police as a possible case of suicide or sudden illness has now been contradicted by medical evidence. The victim’s mother, speaking through tears, has demanded the strictest punishment for the accused, saying her daughter fought to survive until her last moments. The case has triggered widespread anger and raised serious questions about the early stages of the investigation.
Doctors at Patna Medical College Hospital, who conducted the post-mortem, said the student had multiple fresh injuries across her body, all inflicted before her death. The report shows deep nail marks around her neck and shoulders, indicating that she struggled forcefully as someone tried to restrain her. There were also scratch marks on her chest and shoulders, suggesting she was pressed against a hard surface for a long period. Bruises found on her back point to a prolonged struggle that lasted much longer than a few minutes, leading experts to believe that more than one person could have been involved in the attack.
The most serious findings were related to injuries to the student’s private parts. Doctors found fresh and severe wounds, including deep abrasions and bleeding, which they clearly stated were the result of forceful sexual assault and not consensual activity. The medical board confirmed that the victim was conscious during the attack and resisted continuously. According to their opinion, the marks of struggle on her body prove that she was fighting to protect herself until her last breath. Samples have been sent to AIIMS for further tests to confirm the exact cause of death.
These findings directly challenge the police’s earlier statements. Investigators had initially suggested that the student was depressed and may have taken sleeping pills, and also claimed there was no evidence of sexual assault. The post-mortem report, however, presents a very different picture. The victim’s family has accused the police of negligence and alleged that attempts were made to settle the matter with money after the FIR was registered. They have also questioned why some suspects were released so quickly. In response to growing public pressure, the Bihar DGP has formed a high-level special investigation team to re-examine the case. Senior officials have said the probe will now be based strictly on medical and forensic evidence, as the state waits for justice in a case that has deeply shaken public trust.
