Patna: Bihar is witnessing clear weather conditions with bright sunshine during the day, offering relief from the recent cold spell. However, night temperatures continue to dip, keeping early mornings and evenings chilly across many districts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has not issued any fog alert for any district today (Friday). Weather officials said there is currently no strong western disturbance active over North India, which is why Bihar is not seeing either significant rainfall or an intense cold wave at present.
According to IMD data, Kishanganj recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state over the last 24 hours at 8°C, followed by Vaishali at 9.8°C. North-westerly winds are blowing at normal speed, causing a slight fall in night temperatures, while daytime sunshine is reducing the impact of cold.
Rain, Snowfall in Hills May Affect Bihar’s Weather
Meteorologists said a strong western disturbance is likely to impact the Himalayan region on January 23 and 24, bringing snowfall in some areas. This could lead to a mild increase in cold conditions in parts of Bihar. There are also chances of light rain in the state within the next 48 hours.
Why the Weather Feels Like This
Weather scientists explained that the absence of an active western disturbance over North India is keeping conditions dry and relatively stable in Bihar. While nights are cooling due to normal north-westerly winds, strong sunlight during the day is preventing a severe cold wave. As a result, people are experiencing mild cold in the morning and evening, with fairly comfortable conditions during the day.
Seven-Day Forecast for Bihar
The IMD forecast suggests that similar weather will continue over the next week. Daytime maximum temperatures may rise slightly, and minimum temperatures could also increase by 1–2°C.
Some districts may see light fog in the mornings, but dense fog is unlikely. Overall, the weather is expected to remain dry, with no major adverse impact on daily life.
Train Routes Diverted Due to Railway Work
Meanwhile, due to non-interlocking (NI) work in the Lucknow Railway Division, the Railways have diverted the routes of several trains running to and from Bihar today and on January 24.
The affected trains include:
Darbhanga–New Delhi, Barauni–New Delhi, Muzaffarpur–Anand Vihar, New Delhi–Darbhanga, Amritsar–New Jalpaiguri, New Delhi–Barauni, Anand Vihar–Saharsa, Amritsar–Jaynagar, Kathgodam–Howrah and Darbhanga–Jalandhar.
The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) said these diversions will apply to both up and down journeys.
Will the Cold Return?
Weather experts said a mild return of cold is possible in the last week of January or early February. If snowfall increases in the hilly regions or a new western disturbance becomes active, colder winds could move into North India.
However, the expected cold spell is not likely to be very intense. Night temperatures may drop again, while daytime conditions are expected to remain largely normal.
