Patna: Former Bihar minister and Jan Shakti Janata Dal (JJD) president Tej Pratap Yadav has vacated his government residence at 26 M Strand Road in Patna, prompting allegations from the new occupant that the property has been left in a state of disrepair.
Lakhendra Paswan, the minister now allotted the bungalow, claimed essential items including fans, chairs, air conditioners and light bulbs were missing. “Every MLA and minister is provided with facilities in their government residence. Here, even the roof is damaged. The residence is uninhabitable until repairs are carried out,” he said, adding that the gate latches had also been broken. Officials from the Building Construction Department have been informed of the condition.

Tej Pratap Yadav, who had been expelled from his family and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), organised a Dahi-Chura feast at the residence during Makar Sankranti, attended by senior party leaders including his father, Lalu Prasad. At the time, Lalu publicly stated he held no resentment towards his son.
The notice to vacate the property was issued on November 25 following Tej Pratap’s defeat in the 2025 assembly elections from the Mahua constituency. Alongside him, former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi was also asked to vacate her government residence at 10 Circular Road, as per rules requiring former MLAs to leave official accommodations within a month of notice.

Tej Pratap, who had earlier expressed concerns over leaking roofs and other maintenance issues, moved into the Strand Road bungalow after losing his ministerial position. He contested the Mahua seat on his newly formed party’s ticket but came third, behind Sanjay Kumar Singh of the LJP (Ram Vilas) and former RJD MLA Dr Mukesh Roshan. Tej Pratap had previously represented Mahua as an MLA and served as Bihar’s health minister during his first term.
