Patna: A young man from Bihar has died by suicide in Mumbai, leaving his family, village and friends in deep shock and sorrow. The victim, Saurabh Raju Mishra, was a resident of Basghatiya village under the Sugauli police station area in East Champaran district. He was working in a private company in Panvel, Mumbai, where he lived with his parents. On February 2, Saurabh consumed poison at his home while his parents were away in their village for a family function.
When his parents returned to Mumbai, they found him lying unconscious. They immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead. As soon as the news reached his native village, a wave of grief spread across the area. Neighbours and relatives gathered at his home in Basghatiya, remembering him as a quiet, hardworking and responsible young man who always cared deeply for his family.
Saurabh was married to Pooja in April 2021. In the beginning, everything seemed normal. The couple even went to Goa for their honeymoon. However, within just two months of marriage, serious disputes started between them. After around four months, they began living separately. In April 2023, his wife filed a dowry harassment case against him at Rupas police station in Patna. From that moment, his life changed completely. According to his family, Saurabh fell into deep mental stress and depression due to the court case and the social pressure that followed.
Before ending his life, Saurabh wrote a long and emotional suicide note. In the letter, he apologised to his parents and asked them to forgive him. He wrote that he felt he had become weak and could no longer bear the injustice he believed he was facing. He also expressed his love for his three-year-old daughter, Naina, saying he had always loved her and wanted her to be happy. For his brother, he wrote words of apology and asked him to take care of their parents. His message to his wife was short, saying he had nothing more to say.
Family members say Saurabh considered himself innocent and felt completely broken by the long legal battle. They believe he suffered in silence and had no emotional support to help him cope with the situation. His death has once again highlighted the serious impact of mental stress, relationship conflicts and lengthy legal processes on young people. Villagers now hope that his story will remind society of the need to listen, support and stand by those who are struggling.
