Patna: The Patna Education Department has taken a major step to improve education in government schools by introducing strict rules for online attendance of teachers and students. Starting February 10, all schools in the district will be required to register attendance through the Bihar Attendance App. Schools that fail to do so will face strict action, officials have said. This move comes as part of a pilot project that may later be expanded to all schools across Bihar if it proves successful.
Under this project, 3,400 schools in Patna have been provided with two tablets each. These tablets will be used to record attendance of both teachers and students, as well as monitor classroom activities. District Education Officers (DEOs) have been instructed to ensure that principals of all schools follow these new rules carefully. The department has emphasised that it will be closely watching the registration and attendance process.
Teachers will have additional responsibilities under this system. They must take daily photos and videos of students present in class and upload them to the e-Shiksha Kosh portal. Videos of lessons being taught, students eating their mid-day meals, and the cleanliness of school premises will also need to be uploaded. The department hopes this will improve accountability and provide better records of student engagement in schools.
Along with attendance, teachers are required to update monthly reports on subject-wise course progress. Every report must have the signatures of the school principal and all teachers present. Any teacher who fails to sign will be considered absent for the day. Officials say these measures are aimed at improving teaching standards, increasing student attendance, and creating a more organised system for monitoring schools in Patna.
