Kishanganj: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inspected the newly commissioned Thakurganj Grid Substation on Wednesday, highlighting its role in improving electricity access across remote areas of Kishanganj and neighbouring regions. The 220/132/33 kV facility is designed to support industrial expansion while also benefitting farmers in the local tea gardens.
During the visit, Shri Rahul Kumar (IAS), Managing Director of North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited and Bihar State Transmission Company Limited, briefed the Chief Minister on the operational status and supply coverage of the substation. Officials noted that the project has strengthened the reliability and quality of power for both rural and urban consumers.
The grid substation, inaugurated on 6 October 2025, has significantly reduced electricity line lengths from the previous 50–55 km to 3–15 km. Currently, it powers Thakurganj Rural, Thakurganj Urban, and Churli Power Substations, supplying around 20 MW of electricity. Plans to connect three more substations are expected to raise the uninterrupted supply capacity to 45–50 MW in the near future.
The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction with the grid’s operations, noting its potential to support regional development. The inspection was attended by senior officials and ministers, including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Industries Minister Dr Dilip Jaiswal, Minority Welfare Minister Mohammad Zama Khan, and other public representatives and senior bureaucrats.
