Patna: The Department of Performing Arts at Patna Women’s College, in collaboration with the WE-PWC Gender Cell, organised a sensitisation workshop on gender parity as part of gender inclusion and equity initiatives under Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA). The programme aimed to encourage students to reflect on gender roles and inclusivity within the performing arts.

The session began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by the felicitation of the guest speakers. Students and faculty members gathered to discuss gender fluidity in dance, drama and music, focusing on how social perceptions of gender influence artistic expression and performance.

The first session was conducted by Sudipa Ghosh, head of the Bharatanatyam department at Bhartiya Nritya Kala Mandir in Patna. She spoke about the role of gender in various forms of performing arts and highlighted how patriarchal structures and male dominance have historically shaped art and literature. Ghosh also encouraged students to reflect on how gender perspectives can influence choreography, storytelling and stage performance.

The second session was led by theatre activist Anish Ankur from Abhiyan, Patna. He discussed gender inclusivity in theatre traditions and explained how dialogue and character interpretation in drama can reinforce or challenge gender stereotypes. Ankur also shared practical insights to help students develop stronger observation skills when analysing society through theatre.

The event was coordinated by Enakshi Dey Biswas, coordinator of the Department of Performing Arts, along with assistant coordinator Kriti Rani and Devopriya Datta from the WE-PWC Gender Cell. The programme was moderated by students Siddhi and Priyanshi, who facilitated the discussions and interaction during the workshop.
