Patna: A 45-year-old businessman was shot at close range inside a residential apartment complex in Patna on Tuesday night, in an attack that police say involved two assailants who fled the scene on a motorcycle.
The incident took place within the jurisdiction of Shastri Nagar Police Station, near the Shivpuri drainage canal and the Carbon Factory, when Dilip Kumar Singh was returning home to the GS Enclave apartment complex.
According to police, Singh had just stepped out of his vehicle and was heading towards the elevator to reach his fifth-floor flat when he was confronted by the attackers. One of the assailants called out to him, and as he turned, he was shot at close range.
Despite being hit in the abdomen — with the bullet passing through his body — Singh attempted to flee towards the elevator. The attackers chased him, leading to a scuffle near the lift area, during which another shot was fired.

The injured businessman was rushed to a private hospital near the Patliputra roundabout, where he remains in critical condition. Local MLA Shyam Rajak visited the hospital to inquire about his condition.
Police officials said two spent cartridges have been recovered from the scene, while reports indicate that three rounds were fired during the attack. A team from the forensic science laboratory has also examined the site.
City SP Diksha said an investigation is underway and CCTV footage from the apartment campus is being analysed to identify the accused. “The perpetrators will be arrested soon,” she said.
Singh, who runs a construction materials supply firm, MP Engicon, operates his office from Boring Road. He had reportedly returned home around 9pm when the attack occurred.
Following the shooting, the assailants fled on a motorcycle, while the apartment complex’s security guard reportedly ran from the scene after hearing gunshots.
