Patna: Bihar is set to witness a sharp rise in temperatures over the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department warning that the mercury could increase by up to 3°C and cross the 40°C mark in several districts.
The shift comes in the wake of recent storms, rainfall and hailstorms that affected parts of the state, including Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur and Purnia. While the past 24 hours saw varied weather conditions, meteorologists say the current phase of relative calm is likely to give way to intense heat.
According to forecasts, temperatures in South and Central Bihar are expected to rise rapidly, with districts such as Kaimur and adjoining areas likely to experience the most severe conditions. North Bihar may continue to see some lingering coolness, but a broader warming trend is anticipated across the state.
Weather experts said the impact of the heat will begin to be felt as early as 10am, intensifying through the afternoon hours, particularly between 12pm and 3pm, when exposure to the sun could become challenging.

Doctors have issued advisories urging people to take precautions against heatstroke and dehydration, especially during peak hours. Residents have been advised to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated and take protective measures against prolonged sun exposure.
In Patna, conditions are expected to remain relatively moderate in the immediate term, with some relief from morning and evening breezes. However, temperatures in the city are also likely to rise sharply after April 4 or 5, approaching the 40°C mark.
The IMD has indicated that rainfall is unlikely between April 1 and April 6, with dry conditions prevailing across the state. Even if light cloud cover appears, it is not expected to significantly reduce temperatures.
Urban areas are likely to feel the heat more intensely due to dense construction and vehicular emissions, potentially increasing demand for electricity and water in the coming days.
