Patna: The Bihar government has revised school timings across the state, shifting all government schools to morning hours in response to rising temperatures and heatwave conditions.
According to an order issued by the Directorate of Secondary Education, the new schedule will come into effect from April 6 and remain in place until May 31.
Under the revised timings, schools will begin at 6:30am, followed by a half-hour prayer session. Academic classes will commence at 7:00am and continue until 12:20pm, when students will be dismissed.
A dedicated slot between 9:00am and 9:40am has been earmarked for the mid-day meal. In schools with larger enrolments, headmasters have been authorised to serve meals in two shifts to avoid overcrowding.
Officials said the decision was taken to safeguard students from exposure to intense midday heat, which has intensified across the state in recent days.
District magistrates have also been granted the authority to make further adjustments to school timings if weather conditions worsen in their respective districts.
The revised schedule will remain in effect until the summer vacation begins. Once schools reopen after the break, the regular timing of 9:30am to 4:00pm will be reinstated.
The education department has issued instructions to all district education officers to ensure strict implementation of the new timings.
