Patna: The Bihar government has approved a plan to modernise its pilot training infrastructure by introducing real-time aircraft tracking technology in training flights.
The state’s department of civil aviation will equip its Cessna 172R training aircraft with Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS-B) transponders, a move officials say will significantly improve safety and oversight during flight training.
ADS-B systems enable precise, real-time tracking of an aircraft’s position, enhancing air traffic surveillance and operational control. Authorities believe the technology will allow instructors and ground teams to monitor training flights more effectively, reducing risks and improving response times.
According to the department, the upgrade is intended to bring Bihar’s pilot training standards in line with national benchmarks. Trainee pilots will also gain access to real-time air traffic data, helping them better understand complex flight environments and operational procedures.
The proposal has already been cleared by the state cabinet, marking a key step in efforts to strengthen aviation training in the region. Officials said the initiative addresses a long-standing need to upgrade training systems and infrastructure.
Experts say the introduction of advanced tracking technology will not only improve the quality of training but also give aspiring pilots in Bihar greater exposure to modern aviation systems, enabling them to compete more effectively at national and international levels.
