Jehanabad: A 46-year-old security guard has been arrested for the horrific sexual assault and murder of a five-year-old student at a private hostel in the Kanaudi area of Jehanabad. The accused, identified as Mukesh Kumar alias Sudama, reportedly confessed to the crime, citing years of resentment and being teased by the children as his motive.
The Grusome Discovery
The incident came to light on Monday, April 6, when the blood-soaked body of the young boy was discovered at the Gurukul Hostel. According to police reports, the child’s body bore more than 20 deep cuts inflicted by a blade, and there were clear signs of sexual assault and heavy bleeding.
Following the discovery, the victim’s family and local residents staged a massive protest, blocking the National Highway with the child’s body to demand immediate justice and the arrest of the culprits.
A Confession Rooted in Resentment
During police interrogation, Mukesh Kumar, who had been working at the hostel for five years, admitted to the heinous act. He claimed that his wife had left him for another man a decade ago, a fact that led the hostel children to frequently mock him by calling him “impotent.”
“I have been working here for five years. My wife left me ten years ago. Because of this, the children would repeatedly tease me and call me names. Frustrated by this, I carried out this horrific act,” the accused told the police.
The Night of the Crime
Detailing the events of the night, Mukesh stated that he had consumed a bottle of liquor he purchased from Teni Bigha. Around 11:00 PM, while the children were returning to their rooms after watching television, he noticed some older boys teasing him again. He claimed that seeing the 5-year-old victim laughing at him triggered a fit of rage.
The accused lured the child to his room under the pretext of showing him something on his mobile phone. When the child became frightened and tried to flee, Mukesh forcibly took him to a secluded corner of the staircase where he sexually assaulted him. Fearing that the child would identify him, he slit the boy’s throat and used a blade to mutilate the body, hoping to make the injuries look like a fall from a height.
Forensic Evidence and Arrest
Jehanabad SP Aprajit Lohan stated that the breakthrough came through CCTV footage and forensic evidence. “Bloodstains were found in the kitchen sink of the accused’s room. Furthermore, a blood-stained blade was recovered from outside his bathroom window,” the SP confirmed. CCTV footage showed the guard moving suspiciously up and down the stairs multiple times during the night of the incident.
Family Alleges Negligence
The victim’s grandfather revealed that the child had been admitted to the Gurukul Hostel only five days prior, on April 1. The boy’s older brother, a student of Class 1, also resides at the same hostel.
“We were told in the morning that he was serious. When we reached the hospital, we saw knife marks on his chest and neck,” the grandfather said, expressing suspicion toward the school management. He noted that while his grandson usually slept in a lower-floor room, he had been moved to an upper floor on the night of the murder.
The police have secured the crime scene and are continuing their investigation to ensure a water-tight case against the accused.
