Patna: The Bihar transport department has directed district authorities to expedite the updating of High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) laser codes, with more than 63,000 vehicles across the state found to be operating without compliance.
In a written directive, Rajkumar, the state’s transport secretary, instructed all district transport officers (DTOs) to urgently clear pending cases, warning that delays were causing significant inconvenience to vehicle owners.
Officials said the backlog has disrupted the timely issuance of registration certificates (RCs), with many applicants unable to receive printed RC cards due to incomplete HSRP data.
Districts With Highest Pending Cases
The districts with the highest number of pending HSRP laser code cases include Patna, Motihari, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Siwan, Sitamarhi, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Gopalganj, Chapra, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Supaul and Begusarai.
The department identified 16 districts with the highest number of pending cases and issued specific instructions to their DTOs to resolve the backlog on priority.
Dealers Under Scrutiny
The transport department also flagged violations by vehicle dealers, noting that some showrooms were delivering vehicles without installing HSRP number plates.
The secretary directed that no vehicle should be allowed to leave a dealership without an HSRP plate affixed. Authorities have been asked to monitor compliance closely, with regular inspections planned.
Enforcement Drive Planned
Officials said special enforcement drives will be launched to identify vehicles operating without HSRP plates. Strict action, including penalties, will be taken against both vehicle owners and dealers found violating the rules.
The move is part of a broader effort to streamline vehicle registration processes and ensure compliance with safety and identification norms across the state.
