Patna: The Bihar home department (special branch) has revised security arrangements for several prominent individuals, downgrading the cover of former deputy chief minister Vijay Kumar Sinha while upgrading protection for Nishant Kumar, son of former chief minister Nitish Kumar.
The changes were made following recommendations of the state security committee in a meeting held on April 17, officials said.
Key Changes In Security Categories
Under the revised order:
- Vijay Kumar Sinha’s security has been reduced from “Z+” to “Z” category
- Nishant Kumar has been granted “Z” category security
- Shrawon Kumar, a JD(U) MLA and former minister, has been provided “Y+ (with escort)” security
Officials described the move as part of a routine review based on updated threat perception and risk assessment.
What The Security Categories Mean
In Bihar, security cover for public figures is assigned across categories such as Z+, Z, Y+, Y and X, depending on assessed risk levels.
The “Z+” category represents the highest level of protection, typically involving a large contingent of security personnel including commandos. Lower categories provide varying levels of security, with fewer personnel and resources.
Officials said the revision is part of periodic evaluations conducted by the security committee to ensure that protection levels remain aligned with current intelligence inputs and threat assessments.
