Patna: Nishant Kumar convened a meeting of party officials on Sunday as the Janata Dal (United) sought to stabilise its organisation following the resignation of his father, Nitish Kumar.
The meeting, held at the party’s state headquarters, brought together district and block presidents from the Purnia and Bhagalpur divisions to review organisational functioning and set priorities for the coming weeks. Representatives from Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Araria, Bhagalpur and Banka were among those in attendance.
Addressing party workers, Nishant Kumar stressed the need for continuity and discipline in organisational work, urging leaders to ensure that party activities are carried out “smoothly and efficiently”. He also called for closer monitoring of welfare schemes aimed at poorer communities, signalling a focus on governance even as the party navigates a leadership transition.
Senior figures present at the meeting included state party president Umesh Singh Kushwaha, legislative council deputy leader Lalan Kumar Sarraf, and chief whip Sanjay Kumar Singh, among others.
Nishant Kumar sought to reassure party members that the JD(U) would continue to function under the guidance of Nitish Kumar, who has long dominated Bihar’s political landscape. He described party workers as the “foundation” of the organisation and credited his father’s tenure since 2005 with prioritising law and order in the state.
Citing official figures, he pointed to a significant expansion in policing infrastructure over the past two decades, including a rise in the number of police stations, vehicles and personnel. These measures, he said, had contributed to improved public safety and a more stable environment for development.
He urged party workers to take the government’s record to the public and maintain organisational momentum, as the JD(U) attempts to project continuity amid uncertainty over its future leadership.
