Patna: Residents in Bihar will soon be able to check the working status of solar streetlights installed in their villages, as the state government moves to make monitoring systems more transparent and accessible.
The Panchayati Raj Department has announced that LED television screens will be installed in all district collectorates to display real-time information on solar streetlights set up under the chief minister’s rural solar streetlight scheme. The initiative aims to improve accountability and allow citizens to track whether the lights in their gram panchayats are functioning.
The system will be powered by a centralised monitoring platform developed by the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA), which will provide live updates on the operational status of the installations.
A total of Rs 76 lakh has been allocated from the state plan fund for the project, with Rs 2 lakh earmarked for each district. Officials said the move is part of broader efforts to strengthen transparency in government schemes and ensure public oversight.
Naveen Kumar Singh, director of the Panchayati Raj Department, said the LED screens would be installed in public areas within district collectorates within 15 days. He added that displaying real-time data would enable citizens to directly assess the performance of the scheme and help ensure its benefits reach intended communities.
The department said it would continue to explore ways to improve service delivery and maximise the impact of its rural infrastructure initiatives.
