Aurangabad/Patna: Unidentified thieves decamped with cash and jewellery worth around Rs 1 crore from a house in Amba town of Bihar’s Aurangabad district, police said.
The burglary took place at the residence of Geeta Singh, a former deputy chief of Kutumba block, while the family was away.
House Targeted In Owner’s Absence
According to police, Singh’s husband, Virendra Kumar Singh, had travelled to Patna on April 13 to visit their son.
Taking advantage of the vacant house, the burglars allegedly broke in and carried out the theft without attracting attention, despite the area being densely populated.
Loss Estimated At Rs 1 Crore
When the family returned on Wednesday night, they found the locks broken and the house ransacked.
Police said the thieves took jewellery worth Rs 70–80 lakh and around Rs 12 lakh in cash, with total losses estimated at nearly Rs 1 crore.

Police Launch Investigation
An FIR has been registered at Amba Police Station, and a police team has begun an investigation.
Station house officer Rahul Raj said CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to identify the suspects.
A dog squad has also been deployed, while technical teams are analysing mobile tower data and other inputs.
Security Concerns Raised
The incident has raised concerns over security in the area, which is located near a busy market with regular police presence.
Residents have expressed anger and demanded swift action to arrest those responsible.
Police said efforts are under way to crack the case at the earliest.
