Bodh Gaya: One person was killed and 10 people, including nine children, were injured in a serious road accident in the Bodh Gaya police station area of Gaya district on Wednesday evening after a jeep lost control, collided with a bridge and plunged below.
According to local residents, the vehicle was returning from Bodh Gaya mall, where the children had gone for shopping, when the crash took place. One injured child said the group was on its way back when the driver suddenly lost control of the jeep.
Residents rushed to the scene and helped pull the injured passengers from the wreckage before taking them to a nearby community health centre. Doctors there provided first aid before referring several of the more seriously injured children to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital in Gaya for further treatment.
An injured man, identified as Anand Vikram, is being treated at a private hospital in Gaya.
Injured identified
The injured were named as Simran Kumari, 8, Kanchan Kumari, 8, Sumit Kumar, 9, Amrita Kumari, 7, Mansi, 10, Raj Lakshmi, 9, Deepa Kumari, 10, Rishu Kumar, 9, and Anjali Kumari.
Police said the dead, driver of the ill fated jeep has not yet been formally identified.
Investigation under way
Witnesses said the jeep suddenly went out of control before striking the bridge structure and falling below. Police have launched an investigation to establish the exact cause of the crash
