Patna: Bihar chief minister Samrat Chaudhary on Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the progress of key urban infrastructure projects, including the Patna Metro, proposed satellite townships and the riverfront development along JP Ganga Path.
The meeting, held at the chief minister’s secretariat, focused on timelines, technical challenges and future connectivity plans as the state looks to accelerate urbanisation.
Metro Project Faces Delays
Officials from the Urban Development and Housing Department presented updates on the Patna Metro Rail project, highlighting cost escalations and implementation delays caused by technical and logistical challenges.
The chief minister directed officials to resolve bottlenecks swiftly and ensure that construction progresses at a faster pace.
He emphasised that timely completion of the metro is essential to ease commuting and improve urban mobility in Patna.
Push For Satellite Townships
The government is planning to develop 11 satellite townships across Bihar to promote planned urbanisation.
Officials briefed the meeting on the status of statutory approvals and project implementation. Chaudhary instructed departments to proceed in a phased manner while adhering strictly to timelines.
He said the townships are expected to support population growth and reduce pressure on existing urban centres.
Airport Connectivity Plan
The meeting also reviewed a proposal for a Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system to connect Patna airport with the metro network.
Officials said the system is designed to provide seamless last-mile connectivity for air passengers, reducing travel time and congestion.
The chief minister expressed confidence that the system would enhance urban transport integration.
Riverfront Development Project
Progress on the JP Ganga Path Integrated Park (Phase 1) and the broader riverfront development project was also reviewed.
The project, spanning around 6km from Digha to Sabhyata Dwar, is scheduled for completion by September 25, 2027.
Plans include parking facilities, landscaped gardens, pedestrian pathways, cycling tracks, sports grounds and a designated market space.
Chaudhary described the initiative as a major urban amenity project and directed officials to ensure timely and environmentally sustainable execution.
Site Inspection
Following the meeting, the chief minister conducted an on-site inspection along the Ganga riverfront corridor, visiting locations including Digha, LCT Ghat and Bans Ghat.
He instructed officials to prioritise public safety and usability while carrying out beautification and infrastructure works.
Focus On Urban Transformation
Officials said the review reflects the government’s broader push to modernise infrastructure, improve connectivity and promote planned urban growth across Bihar.
The projects, once completed, are expected to significantly reshape Patna’s urban landscape and enhance quality of life for residents.
