Patna: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna will hold its second convocation on May 6 at its institute auditorium, marking a major academic milestone for the relatively young medical institution as hundreds of students prepare to graduate across medical and nursing disciplines.
The ceremony will be attended by the Governor of Bihar, who will also be the chief guest, alongside retired Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain. Senior political leaders including Satish Chandra Dubey, Minister of State for Coal and Mines, and Members of Parliament Ravi Shankar Prasad and Tariq Anwar will attend as guests of honour.
Institute officials including president Prof. Radha Krishan Dhiman, executive director and CEO Prof. (Brig.) Raju Agarwal, Dean (Academics) Prof. Punam Prasad Bhadani, Registrar Prof. Jyoti Prakash, and members of the institute body are expected to be present, along with faculty members, staff, students and their families.
Degrees will be awarded to more than 300 students across undergraduate, postgraduate and super-speciality programmes. This year’s graduating cohort includes 24 DM/MCh students, 75 MD/MS/MDS students, and nine postdoctoral fellows. In addition, 108 MBBS students from the 2018 and 2019 batches will receive their degrees.
Nursing and allied health graduates will also be conferred degrees, including 15 MSc Nursing students, 108 BSc Nursing students across the 2020 and 2021 batches, and diploma certificate holders.
A total of 27 students will receive gold medals for academic excellence across disciplines. Of these, the governor will present medals to 17 top performers from super-speciality, postgraduate, MBBS and nursing programmes, while the institute president will award medals to 10 MSc Nursing students from the 2022 and 2023 batches.
Officials said the convocation reflects the institute’s “growing academic footprint” and its emphasis on “nurturing excellence across all levels of medical education”. The ceremony will conclude with a vote of thanks followed by the national anthem.
