Dengue Cases Surge in Patna: NMCH to be Designated as Dedicated Dengue Hospital

Patna: With a significant rise in dengue cases across the capital, the district administration of Patna is gearing up to declare Nalanda Medical College Hospital (NMCH) as a dedicated dengue hospital. The city has already recorded 538 confirmed cases of dengue, with 10 to 15 new cases emerging daily. Currently, around 50 patients are receiving treatment in both private and government hospitals.

Patna District Magistrate Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh has confirmed that the official announcement regarding NMCH’s designation as a dengue hospital will be made within the next two days. This measure aims to ensure better facilities for the growing number of dengue patients, who will receive specialized care at the hospital. Notably, NMCH had previously been designated as a dengue hospital, but the administration is now working to enhance preparedness given the escalating situation.

NMCH has already established a dedicated 40-bed ward for dengue patients, with separate allocations for male and female patients. An additional 15 beds have been reserved, ensuring that more patients can be accommodated if needed.

– Male Ward (Dedicated): 20 beds
– Female Ward (Dedicated): 20 beds
– Infant Ward (Reserve): 10 beds
– Emergency Ward (Reserve): 5 beds

The hospital also has a “zero drug purchase policy,” meaning patients do not need to buy any medications or supplies from outside. NMCH provides free treatment, medicine, testing, platelets, mosquito nets, food, and liquid diets, making healthcare accessible to all patients.

Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh emphasized that the district administration and health department are in constant coordination with the municipal corporation to combat the outbreak. “We are reviewing the situation daily, and NMCH will soon be declared a dengue hospital with enhanced arrangements to meet the increasing demand for care,” said Singh.

Additionally, a team of 50 health workers, led by HOD Dr. Ajay Kumar Sinha, is working around the clock to ensure proper treatment for patients. The hospital is equipped to provide platelets and other necessary treatments, and each patient is assessed based on the severity of their condition to ensure proper care.
