Patna: Locals Block Road in Phulwari Sharif to Protest Murder of Property Dealer
Patna: Anger erupted in Phulwari Sharif late Friday night after the murder of property dealer Sudarshan Verma (45), prompting locals to block the road in protest. The protesters burned tyres, demanding swift action against the culprits. The protest gained further attention when Purnea’s independent MP, Pappu Yadav, arrived at the spot and launched a scathing attack on the state government.
Yadav expressed his frustration, stating that criminals in Bihar have become emboldened due to the lack of police enforcement. “The fear of the police is gone. The government is paying respects to criminals instead of holding them accountable. This has boosted their morale,” he said. He further criticized the state, saying, “Incidents of murder, robbery, dacoity, and rape are occurring daily. The government must act immediately and arrest these criminals.”
The incident took place on Friday when three criminals on a motorcycle shot property dealer Sudarshan Verma in broad daylight near AIIMS Patna. Verma was shot five times, resulting in his death on the spot. The assailants fled immediately after the attack.
Four bullet shells were recovered from the crime scene, and CCTV footage captured the entire incident. Verma, who had a murder case registered against him at Bihta Police Station and had previously been to jail, was visiting AIIMS for property-related work when the attack occurred.
