Kishanganj: A brick kiln in Bihar’s Kishanganj district owned by a local Jan Suraaj Party leader has been raided by district officials after a tip-off alleging the illegal use of domestic LPG cylinders, with authorities recovering 62 cylinders from the site.
Acting on confidential intelligence received by the district magistrate, a team led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Aniket Kumar conducted a late-evening raid on the Nihar Brick Kiln in Bandarjhula panchayat, under the jurisdiction of Jiyapokhar Police Station.
Officials said 62 domestic gas cylinders — including 54 large and eight small ones — were seized during the operation. According to the administration, several of the cylinders were found filled and allegedly being used for commercial brick kiln operations, a violation of regulations governing domestic LPG supply.
The raid was carried out in the presence of senior officials, including police and revenue officers, as well as representatives from the mining and supply departments.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Aniket Kumar said the action followed a specific input received by the district magistrate, prompting the formation of a special team to verify the allegation before the raid was conducted. Following the recovery, officials initiated legal proceedings.
An FIR has been registered in the case on the basis of a written complaint by Sumit Kumar, Block Supply Officer of Thakurganj, a region within Thakurganj.
District officials have begun a wider investigation into how such a large number of domestic cylinders reached the brick kiln and the duration of their alleged commercial use.
The kiln is reportedly operated by Ikramul Haq, a leader of the Jan Suraj Party and former candidate from Thakurganj. Haq was recently appointed state general secretary of the party, according to an official announcement earlier this month.
Authorities said further verification is underway to determine the scale of the alleged violation and whether more individuals or supply chain links are involved.
