Patna: Patna University is expected to get a new swimming pool at its Saidpur campus by the end of this month, with construction work now in its final stage.
The swimming pool is being developed under the Khelo India scheme in collaboration with the university. According to officials, only the installation of a shed in the outer area remains pending before the facility is handed over.
The project has been executed by the Bihar State Educational Infrastructure Development Corporation.
Rs. 4.5 crore swimming pool nearing completion
The swimming pool has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 4.5 crore. It measures 50 metres in length and 30 metres in width.
Officials said the main construction work has been completed and the facility is likely to be formally transferred to the university by the end of the month.
Indoor sports complex under construction
Alongside the swimming pool, a large indoor sports complex is also being developed at the Saidpur campus.
The complex, spread across an area measuring 60 metres by 40 metres, is being built at an estimated cost of Rs. 18 crore. The project is being funded through the PM-USHA scheme sanctioned for Patna University.
The indoor facility will include courts for basketball, badminton, volleyball and handball. Separate spaces are also being planned for wrestling and kabaddi.
Parking and player facilities planned
The proposed sports complex will also include parking facilities for players and spectators attending competitions and events.
Separate cabins and changing rooms are being developed for athletes. The complex will also be equipped with indoor sports equipment to support training and practice activities.
