Patna: Bihar’s push for industrial expansion received a fresh boost on Saturday after Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced approval for large-scale cement manufacturing units in Muzaffarpur and Kishanganj, alongside a national food technology institute in Hajipur.

The projects, cleared during the 67th meeting of the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB), are expected to generate employment opportunities and strengthen industrial activity across north Bihar and the Seemanchal region.

According to the state government, cement plants proposed by Dalmia Bharat and Ambuja Cements have received approval for establishment in Muzaffarpur and Kishanganj respectively. Sixteen projects were granted Stage-1 clearance, while four others received financial approval.

Announcing the decisions on social media after offering prayers at the Gardanibagh Thakur Bari on the occasion of Vat-Savitri Puja, Choudhary said Bihar was entering a “new phase of industrial investment”.

The government said the projects could reduce migration from north Bihar by creating direct and indirect employment in manufacturing, transport, construction and allied sectors. Officials believe the proposed industries will also stimulate small businesses and local supply chains in the region.

In a parallel development, the state cabinet has also approved the establishment of the country’s third National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) campus in Hajipur, Vaishali district.

The institute will be spread over nearly 100 acres and is expected to serve as a centre for food processing research, entrepreneurship and technical education. The state government said the project would help connect farmers, startups and young entrepreneurs with modern food-processing technologies and market access.

Officials added that the institute could strengthen value addition in crops and produce widely cultivated in Bihar, including fruits, vegetables, maize and makhana, potentially improving farm incomes and boosting the state’s food-processing sector.

The Bihar government has described the twin industrial and educational investments as part of its broader vision for a developed and economically self-reliant state.
