Patna: Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani has announced a Rs 500 crore personal commitment towards expanding rural eye care services across India, alongside the launch of a new charitable trust aimed at scaling affordable vision care and medical outreach in underserved regions.

The announcement came during a groundbreaking ceremony in Mastichak, around 70 kilometres from Patna, where the Adani Group formally unveiled details of its expanding partnership with Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital.

New Trust And Rs 700 Crore Healthcare Push Announced

The initiative includes the creation of the “Adani Akhand Jyoti Foundation”, which the group said would support long-term community healthcare projects beyond Bihar.

According to the company, the total investment outlay for the initiative — including operational expenditure — is expected to exceed Rs 700 crore.

The project includes:

  • the Adani Centre for Eye (ACE), an advanced treatment and surgical facility
  • the Adani Training in Ophthalmic Medicine (ATOM), a specialised training centre for eye healthcare professionals
  • rural outreach programmes and transport infrastructure for remote villages

The network is expected to eventually:

  • perform 3.3 lakh eye surgeries annually
  • train around 1,000 eye health professionals every year

Focus Shifts From Infrastructure To Rural Healthcare Delivery

While earlier announcements had focused on the launch of the eye care project itself, Sunday’s event placed greater emphasis on the broader healthcare ecosystem being developed around it.

A fleet of 10 patient transport buses was also flagged off to improve access to vision care services in remote rural areas of Bihar and neighbouring regions.

Speaking at the event, Gautam Adani said the initiative was rooted in the philosophy of “Seva Hi Saadhna Hai” — service as a form of worship.

In a post on X, he wrote that restoring sight was “not merely a medical intervention” but an effort to restore “hope, confidence and dignity”.

He also described Bihar as “a land that has historically given new consciousness and direction to the nation”.
