Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against five individuals in connection with an alleged Rs 40 lakh fraud carried out under the pretext of securing government jobs through the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC).
The case includes the name of JD(U) leader Dr. Dharmendra Kumar Chandravanshi, a former RJD candidate from Kumhrar, along with a serving female Sub-Inspector of Patna Police, her son, and two others.
FIR Details and Accused Named
According to EOU officials, the FIR has been lodged under Case No. 07/26. The accused include Dr. Chandravanshi, his father Brajkishore Prasad, his wife Dr. Rajni, Sub-Inspector Asha Singh, and her son Ritesh Kumar.
The investigation has been assigned to EOU DSP Swati Krishna, officials said.
Allegations Of Job Assurance Fraud
Investigators have alleged that Sub-Inspector Asha Singh paid Rs 40 lakh to secure a government job for her son through irregular means linked to BPSC recruitment.
It is further alleged that the money was handed over to Dr. Chandravanshi and others involved, with assurances of job facilitation. When the promise did not materialise, a cheque of Rs 25 lakh was reportedly issued as a partial refund, which later bounced, prompting the complaint.
Previous Police Case And High Court Intervention
The matter was earlier registered at Jakkanpur Police Station in January 2024 as Case No. 39/2024. Police had filed a chargesheet in July 2024 and closed the initial investigation.
The case later reached the Patna High Court, where Dr. Chandravanshi filed a petition. Following a court order in February 2026, a fresh inquiry was initiated by Patna Sadar SDPO (I).
Based on the findings of the re-investigation, the EOU proceeded to register the FIR.
Findings of Re-Investigation
The re-investigation report stated that the Sub-Inspector allegedly arranged funds from multiple sources for her son’s recruitment and transferred the amount as part of the deal.
Officials noted that despite being part of the police force, she is accused of attempting to secure a job through unlawful means.
Past Cases and Ongoing Probe
Dr. Chandravanshi has previously faced allegations in similar job-related fraud cases, including an arrest in a separate case involving around Rs 10 lakh. He has also been linked in past reports to alleged document-related irregularities, though he was granted bail in that matter.
The EOU said the ongoing investigation will focus on tracing the financial trail and determining the extent of involvement of all accused individuals.
