Patna: Bihar Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh on Sunday said the state government is working towards hosting matches of the Indian Premier League in Bihar, with international-standard stadiums currently under construction.
She made the remarks while addressing the closing session of a two-day district-level training workshop organised for the BJP’s Gaya District (West) unit.
Government Focus On Sports Infrastructure
Singh said the government aims to strengthen sporting infrastructure alongside talent development across the state.
“It is our endeavour to ensure that the IPL is hosted in Bihar as well. To this end, international-standard stadiums are currently being constructed,” she said during the event.
The minister also urged party workers to remain engaged in public welfare activities and maintain accountability towards the public.
“The public has elected us to serve them. We must remain accountable and continue strengthening the organisation while staying connected with people,” she said.
Eklavya Scheme Targets Young Talent
Singh highlighted the Bihar government’s ‘Eklavya Scheme’, which focuses on identifying and training young athletes across the state.
Operated by the Bihar State Sports Authority, the scheme provides scientific coaching, residential facilities and financial support to athletes aged between 12 and 18 years.
Under the programme, selected athletes receive free accommodation, nutritious meals, sports kits and access to structured training facilities.
Scholarships And Selection Process
The scheme also provides monthly scholarships to encourage regular practice and reduce financial barriers for athletes.
Selection trials are organised in districts across Bihar for children aged 12 to 14 and for promising athletes in the 16 to 18 age group. Officials said selections are based on performance during the trials.
Several Eklavya Centres and Khelo India Centres are currently operational in different parts of the state.
Workshop Attended By BJP Leaders
The workshop was attended by BJP district leaders and local representatives, including District President Prem Prakash, also known as Chintu Singh, media in-charge Vinay Prasad, Sushil Gupta, Vinod Kumar Dangi, Nandkishore Thakur, Manoj Kumar Sinha, Vinod Singh and Gajendra Das.
