Patna: A large number of devotees gathered at various Ganga ghats in Danapur on Monday to celebrate Ganga Dussehra, one of the most significant festivals associated with the River Ganga. The ghats echoed with chants of “Har Har Gange” as thousands took a holy dip and participated in religious rituals throughout the day.
Heavy crowds were witnessed at Fakkar Mahto Ghat, Rajputana Ghat, and Pipa Pul Ghat from the early hours of the morning. Devotees arrived in large numbers to bathe in the river, which is considered sacred in Hindu tradition.
Religious Significance of Ganga Dussehra
According to Hindu beliefs, Ganga Dussehra marks the day when the River Ganga descended to Earth. Bathing in the river on this occasion is believed to bring spiritual merit and liberation from sins.
Many devotees began arriving during the Brahma Muhurat before sunrise to perform rituals and prayers. Fasting, charity, and religious offerings also formed an important part of the observances.
Rituals and Worship Continue Along the Riverbanks
Following the holy dip, devotees gathered along the ghats to perform havans and offer prayers. Several families and groups were seen conducting rituals under the guidance of priests.
Despite the intense heat and strong sunlight during the day, devotees continued to remain at the ghats for worship and religious ceremonies. Temporary stalls selling puja materials and prasad were also set up near Fakkar Mahto Ghat to cater to visitors.
Security Arrangements Tightened at Ghats
In view of the large gathering, the local administration deployed security personnel and strengthened crowd management measures across the ghats.
An SDRF team was stationed along the river and carried out continuous patrolling to prevent any untoward incidents. Officials said the celebrations concluded peacefully without any major disruption.
