Patna: An attempted robbery targeting a cash van near a branch of HDFC Bank in Kadamkuan, was foiled on Monday after local residents intervened and apprehended the suspects before handing them over to police.
Police officials said the accused had allegedly arrived with the intent to loot the cash van at gunpoint. The situation escalated when bystanders noticed suspicious movement near the bank premises and raised an alarm.
Attempted Robbery Near Bank Branch
According to eyewitness accounts, the suspects had been monitoring activity around the bank and cash van movement for some time. As soon as the vehicle reached the location, they allegedly attempted to execute the robbery plan.
Police said the suspects tried to threaten the cash van staff with firearms, triggering panic in the surrounding area.
Locals Intervene and Detain Suspects
As the group attempted to flee following public resistance, residents chased and overpowered them after a brief confrontation. The suspects were restrained on the spot and later handed over to the police team that arrived shortly after being alerted.
Officials confirmed that weapons were recovered from the accused during the initial search.
Police Investigation Underway
Police have begun interrogating the arrested individuals to determine whether they are linked to previous robbery cases or part of a larger criminal network. CCTV footage from nearby establishments is also being reviewed to trace possible accomplices.
Authorities said further legal action will follow based on forensic and surveillance findings.
Security Strengthened in the Area
Following the incident, police have increased security deployment around the bank and adjoining stretches to prevent any further attempts of similar nature. Officials also acknowledged the role of locals in preventing a potential armed robbery.
