Patna: The Bihar Education Department will organise a special summer programme, titled “CAMaL ka Camp 2026”, for academically weaker students of Classes 5 and 6 studying in government schools across the state. The camps are scheduled to run from June 1 to June 30, 2026.

The initiative will focus on improving students’ language and mathematical proficiency through community-based learning sessions conducted at the village and hamlet levels.

Focus On Foundational Learning

According to directives issued by Vikram Virkar, the camp aims to strengthen reading, comprehension, expression and basic mathematics skills among children preparing to move into upper-primary education.

Officials said each camp will accommodate around 10 to 15 students. Camp locations will be selected based on the number of identified children and their residential areas to ensure accessibility.

Volunteers To Lead Camps

The Education Department has decided to run the programme with the support of volunteers. Every middle school in the state will identify two to three volunteers willing to contribute without remuneration.

In addition, Shiksha Sevaks and Talimi Markaz personnel will also conduct camps at their respective centres.

The department said volunteers would receive training from officials working under District Programme Officers (Literacy), along with District Resource Persons and Block Nodal Persons, before the camps begin.

Student Selection And Teaching Method

Participating students will be identified using the ASER assessment tool. Trained volunteers will conduct daily sessions of one to one-and-a-half hours focused on language and mathematics.

The department said the programme would use storytelling, sports, reading exercises and creative activities to build foundational competencies among children.

Monitoring Mechanism In Place

Officials said district, block and Panchayat-level authorities, along with partner organisations, would oversee the implementation of the camps.

The progress of the programme will also be monitored through an online tracking platform to ensure regular supervision and reporting.

The Education Department has directed all District Education Officers and other concerned officials to take necessary steps for the effective implementation of “CAMaL ka Camp 2026” across Bihar.
