Patna: The Bihar government is considering a major housing initiative that would see residential complexes developed on vacant Housing Board land across the state, as part of efforts to strengthen urban infrastructure and expand access to quality housing.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitish Mishra and Dr K.P. Mahadevaswamy, Chairman and Managing Director of National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) India Limited, in Patna on Thursday.
Senior officials, including Principal Secretary Vinay Kumar, Bihar State Housing Board Managing Director Nilesh Deore and NBCC Executive Director Pradeep Sharma, also attended the meeting.
Focus On Vacant Housing Board Land
According to officials, discussions centred on utilising land owned by the Bihar State Housing Board that has remained unused for years.
The proposed development would involve the construction of planned residential complexes designed to cater to various income groups, with an emphasis on quality housing, modern amenities and efficient land use.
Officials said the initiative could help address growing housing demand in urban areas while simultaneously promoting planned urban expansion.
Government Targets Planned Urban Growth
Mishra said the state government remained committed to strengthening urban infrastructure and improving housing facilities for citizens.
He noted that rapid urbanisation in Bihar has increased the need for housing and civic amenities, making long-term urban planning a priority for the government.
“The government’s focus is on ensuring quality infrastructure and housing projects are completed in a time-bound manner through collaboration with experienced and reputed organisations,” Mishra said.
He added that such projects would not only improve housing availability but also contribute to the broader development of urban centres across the state.

Discussions On Future Projects And Investment
The meeting also included discussions on potential infrastructure projects that could be implemented in Bihar with NBCC’s involvement, along with issues related to technical collaboration and investment.
Officials reviewed opportunities for expanding urban infrastructure and developing modern residential projects capable of supporting future population growth.
The government believes that partnerships with established public-sector organisations could help accelerate project implementation and improve construction standards.
NBCC’s Role
NBCC (India) Limited is a Navratna public sector undertaking under the Government of India and is one of the country’s leading construction and project management companies.
The corporation has been involved in the execution of several large-scale infrastructure, housing and redevelopment projects across India.
Officials said further discussions would be held on the scope, financing and implementation framework of the proposed housing developments before any final decisions are taken.
