Patna: The Bihar Education Department has issued strict instructions prohibiting government school teachers from teaching at coaching institutes, private tuition centres, or other commercial educational establishments. Teachers found violating the directive will face disciplinary action.
In this regard, the Directorate of Secondary Education has written to all District Magistrates (DMs), directing them to ensure strict enforcement of the rules across their respective districts.
According to the directive, District Magistrates have been asked to monitor and ensure that no government teacher engages in teaching activities at coaching centres, private tuition institutions, or commercial educational establishments, either within or outside school premises. Any violation of the order will invite action against the concerned teacher.
The department has clarified that involvement in private coaching or tuition by government teachers will be treated as a violation of the prescribed code of conduct. Such cases may lead to departmental proceedings as well as stringent disciplinary measures.
Explaining the rationale behind the move, Secondary Education Director Sajjan R stated in the letter that government schools in Bihar now have an adequate number of teachers. He added that teachers are being provided regular training to enhance their teaching skills and maintain academic standards.
The department believes that when teachers devote time to private coaching or tuition, the quality of education received by students in government schools may suffer. It emphasized that the primary responsibility of government teachers is to provide quality education to students enrolled in schools.
The Education Department further stated that efforts are being made to increase teachers’ accountability towards student learning outcomes and academic performance. The latest directive has been issued as part of these efforts to ensure that teachers remain focused on their official responsibilities.
Following the order, monitoring of government teachers’ activities is expected to intensify across districts. If any teacher is found to be involved in private coaching or tuition during inspections or inquiries, action will be taken in accordance with departmental rules.
