Patna: The Bihar Road Construction Department on Monday conducted a high-level review of infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 50 crore and directed officials to ensure timely completion, quality construction and strict accountability in project execution.
The review meeting was chaired by Pankaj Kumar Pal, Secretary of the Road Construction Department. The meeting assessed the progress of major projects being implemented by the Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited, Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation Limited and the National Highways and Road Construction Department.
Senior departmental officials and engineers attended the meeting in person, while field engineers participated through video conferencing.
Focus on Quality and Real-Time Monitoring
During the review, Pal instructed officials to conduct detailed surveys of every division and ensure regular physical inspections of ongoing works. He emphasised that maintaining construction quality remains the department’s top priority and directed engineers to monitor projects closely.
Officials were also asked to update the Project Management Information System (PMIS) portal regularly to facilitate real-time tracking and monitoring of project progress.
Pending Public Complaints Reviewed
The Secretary reviewed the status of complaints received through the Sahyog Portal and said that grievance redressal remains a key priority for the department.
While expressing satisfaction with the performance of most divisions, he noted that 55 complaints were still pending. Officials were directed to ensure the prompt disposal of all pending cases.
Deadline for Key Schemes
The department also reviewed the implementation of projects linked to the Pragati Yatra and other important schemes. Officials were instructed to complete these projects within the prescribed timelines.
Pal warned that any negligence, delay or laxity in execution would be viewed seriously. He said accountability would be fixed and strict action would be taken against officials found responsible for shortcomings in project implementation.
Monsoon Preparedness Reviewed
With the monsoon season approaching, the meeting also focused on preparedness for possible floods and drought conditions.
The Secretary directed officials to complete all preparations in accordance with prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). He ordered the cleaning of all bridges and culverts across the state and instructed officials to stockpile anti-erosion materials in vulnerable areas.
Continuous monitoring of sensitive locations and immediate repair of damaged infrastructure were also emphasised to minimise disruptions during the monsoon season.
