Patna: Rajya Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday visited Takht Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib, the birthplace of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, where he offered prayers and reviewed ongoing development works at the shrine complex.
Religious Visit and Prayers
Upon arrival at the Takht, Nitish Kumar paid obeisance at the Darbar Sahib and spent time listening to Shabad Kirtan. He prayed for peace, harmony, and development across the country, including Bihar.
Jathedar Giani Baldev Singh and the granthis of the shrine honoured him with a siropa, a robe of honour, and extended blessings during the visit.
Interaction With Management Committee
During the visit, Jagjot Singh Sohi, President of the Takht Management Committee, and General Secretary Indrajit Singh welcomed him. They presented books and mementos highlighting the life and teachings of the Sikh Gurus.
Officials said Nitish Kumar also acknowledged greetings from members of the Sikh congregation present at the site.
Review of Pilgrim Facilities and Development Work
The former Chief Minister reviewed ongoing infrastructure and facility-related projects for pilgrims at the shrine complex. He inquired about the status of development initiatives aimed at improving access and amenities for visitors.
A multi-level parking facility is currently under construction at Kangan Ghat as part of broader infrastructure upgrades in the area.
Long-Standing Association with Patna Sahib
Nitish Kumar has maintained a long association with Takht Sri Patna Sahib. In 2017, the state government undertook large-scale arrangements for the 350th Prakash Parv of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, which included upgrades to roads, electricity, water supply, and tourism infrastructure in the region.
The latest visit comes amid continued development activity around the historic Sikh pilgrimage site.
