Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has announced that a University of Physics and Sciences will be established at the Patna Science College campus as part of the state government’s plan to strengthen higher education and scientific research.
The announcement came during the Chief Minister’s inspection of Patna Science College, where he reviewed the campus and directed officials to prepare a comprehensive and time-bound development plan for the institution.
New university to focus on research and innovation
According to the Chief Minister, the proposed University of Physics and Sciences will become a premier institution dedicated to higher education, cutting-edge research and innovation in physics and allied sciences.
He said the university will provide students and researchers with world-class academic facilities, advanced laboratories and modern research infrastructure, helping Bihar emerge as a stronger centre for science and technology.
Reviving Patna Science College’s legacy
Choudhary said Patna Science College has a distinguished academic and scientific history, and the state government intends to restore its former stature by developing it into a nationally recognised institution for scientific excellence.
He instructed officials to expedite the planning process and ensure that the university’s establishment and the campus redevelopment are carried out within a defined timeline.
Modern infrastructure planned
The Chief Minister said the redevelopment plan includes modern laboratories, specialised research centres, upgraded academic buildings and facilities built to international standards.
He also announced that the college’s basic infrastructure would be strengthened, while student hostels and playgrounds would be upgraded. A technical team will soon visit the campus to assess the requirements and prepare an implementation roadmap.
Government reiterates commitment to higher education
Reaffirming the government’s focus on quality higher education, scientific research and innovation, Choudhary said the new university would serve not only students from Bihar but also researchers from across the country, positioning itself as a leading hub of scientific excellence.
During the inspection, Patna Science College Principal Prof. (Dr.) Alka presented a detailed overview of the institution’s academic activities and infrastructure before the Chief Minister.
Patna Collegiate School to be developed as a model institution
Following the college visit, the Chief Minister also inspected Patna Collegiate School and reviewed its existing facilities.
He said the historic school would be developed as a model institution equipped with modern infrastructure, quality education and an improved learning environment for students.

The inspection was attended by Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, Director General of Police Vinay Kumar, Secretary to the Chief Minister Lokesh Kumar Singh, Education Department Secretary Vinod Singh Gunjiyal, Patna District Magistrate Kundan Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma and other senior officials from the Education Department.
