Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated disciplinary action against three engineers of its Water Supply Division, citing delays in the execution of water supply projects, failure to follow official instructions, and alleged misconduct.
The Corporation said the action followed a review of ongoing projects and complaint redressal mechanisms undertaken at the headquarters level as part of its monitoring of civic services.
Slow Progress in Water Supply Projects
According to the Corporation, the review found that progress on several water supply schemes was significantly delayed. Officials also observed a lack of commitment towards project execution and repeated non-compliance with directions issued by senior authorities.
Explanations were sought from Assistant Engineer (Civil) Shashi Bhushan and Assistant Engineer (Civil) Saurabh Anand. However, the Corporation said their responses were found to be unsatisfactory.
In view of the alleged negligence in implementing public-interest schemes and failure to maintain departmental discipline, PMC has recommended formal disciplinary proceedings against both engineers. A proposal to initiate action under Form ‘K’ has been forwarded to the Urban Development and Housing Department, Government of Bihar.
Recommendation Against Junior Engineer
The Corporation has also recommended action against Vinod Kumar Tiwari, Junior Engineer (Mechanical), following an alleged incident involving inappropriate behaviour towards a control room staff member during official reporting duties.
According to the press release, the engineer allegedly used abusive language and displayed conduct considered inconsistent with departmental discipline. The Corporation has recommended that his services be repatriated to his parent department, the Road Construction Department, Government of Bihar.
Corporation Reiterates Zero-Tolerance Policy
PMC said it maintains a zero-tolerance approach towards negligence, indiscipline, and dereliction of duty in matters concerning public services.
The Corporation stated that ensuring timely delivery of quality civic services remains its highest priority and that officials responsible for public-interest projects are expected to maintain accountability and adhere to departmental procedures.
