Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for several districts in Bihar for July 6 as the monsoon is expected to intensify following the formation of a depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Odisha-West Bengal coast.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Patna, the depression has strengthened the monsoon trough, increasing the likelihood of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across parts of the state.
Orange Alert For 11 Districts
The IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in Aurangabad, Rohtas and Kaimur (Bhabhua) districts.
An orange alert has also been issued for Banka, Gaya, Jehanabad, Jamui, Nalanda, Lakhisarai, Nawada and Sheikhpura, where thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected at one or two places.
Residents in the affected districts have been advised to remain alert during adverse weather conditions.
Yellow Alert For Five Districts
A yellow alert has been issued for Bhagalpur, Buxar, Patna, Bhojpur and Munger.
The IMD has forecast thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 30–40 kmph at isolated locations in these districts.
Temperatures Likely To Remain Stable
According to the Meteorological Centre, there is unlikely to be any significant change in temperatures across Bihar over the next five days.
The maximum temperature on July 6 is expected to remain between 32°C and 36°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to range from 26°C to 28°C.
Officials said the active monsoon conditions are expected to provide relief from the humid weather experienced in recent days.
