New Delhi: A tribute meeting and Justice Rights Assembly demanding justice in the Bharat Tiwari encounter case will be held at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Friday, marking one month since the alleged encounter. The programme is being organised under the banner of the Krantiveer Bharat Tiwari Sangharsh Morcha.

Organisers said around 10,000 people from Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana are expected to participate in the gathering. The event aims to raise the demand for justice for Bharat Tiwari and his family at the national level. Discussions on the next phase of the movement are also scheduled after the public meeting.

Following the programme, lawyers associated with the campaign are expected to submit a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking a fair investigation into the case and justice for the family.

Family Questions Delay in Justice

Friday also marks one month since Bharat Tiwari’s death. His mother, Asha Devi, questioned the delay in the investigation, referring to Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary’s statement that officials who fail to resolve public grievances within 30 days would face action.

“My son’s alleged fake encounter completed 30 days today, but I have not received justice. Am I not a citizen of Bihar?” she said.

Permission has been obtained for the tribute meeting at Jantar Mantar on behalf of Bharat Tiwari’s family.

Family Members to Attend the Rally

Bharat Tiwari’s mother Asha Devi, sister Ruby Pandey, brother Chandan Tiwari, maternal uncle Bhagwati Pandey, cousin Lav Kumar, Rajesh Pandey, and other family members are expected to attend the tribute and justice meeting.

Campaign convener Pankaj Tripathi said the gathering would demand an impartial probe into the encounter, strict action against the police personnel accused in the case, and justice for the bereaved family.

He added that representatives of various social organisations and supporters from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and other states would participate in discussions on the next phase of the agitation and a proposed nationwide campaign.

According to Tripathi, the campaign’s signature drive has so far received support from 4 to 4.5 million people, with a target of collecting 10 million signatures.

Eleven Committees Formed to Pursue Justice

Organisers said 11 committees have been constituted to coordinate legal and public efforts seeking an investigation into the encounter.

The principal body, Amar Shaheed Bharat Tiwari Nyay Sangharsh Samiti, is headed by Supreme Court advocate Anil Mishra, a resident of Gwalior. Nageshwar Dubey, an advocate practising in the Ara Civil Court, has been appointed as the working president. Pankaj Tripathi is the convener, while Bharat Tiwari’s father Kashinath Tiwari serves as the co-convener.

The committee also includes seven other lawyers who will review developments in the case, provide legal guidance and coordinate future action.

Advocate Reiterates Demand for Independent Probe

Supreme Court advocate Anil Mishra, who is expected to attend Friday’s programme, has previously alleged that the ongoing investigation is inadequate and called for an independent and impartial inquiry.

He has demanded the transfer of police officers accused in the encounter to another district, suspension of all officials linked to the case, and registration of a murder case under the relevant provisions of law. Mishra has also sought judicial oversight of the investigation by a sitting judge.

According to Mishra, the campaign will continue until the family receives justice. He has maintained that the investigation should examine the role of all police officials connected with the incident, including senior officers, and has urged lawyers in Bihar to refrain from representing the accused police personnel.

The allegations made by the family and campaign organisers regarding the encounter have not been independently verified, and authorities have not publicly responded to the latest demands at the time of publishing.
