Patna: Bihar’s key revenue-collecting departments collected Rs 19,253 crore by July in the current financial year, an increase of about 18% over the corresponding period last year, officials said during a review meeting on Monday.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, who reviewed the performance of departments responsible for generating revenue for the state exchequer.

Collection Across Key Departments

The revenue was generated through the Commercial Taxes; Prohibition, Excise and Registration; Transport; Mines and Geology; and Revenue and Land Reforms departments.

Officials presented department-wise updates on revenue collection and outlined measures to improve performance in the coming months.

The government said the increase over the previous year reflected an improvement in revenue mobilisation and directed departments to sustain the pace.

Focus On Meeting Revenue Targets

Yadav instructed officials to accelerate revenue collection and complete assigned tasks within stipulated timelines.

He also directed departments to strengthen operational efficiency and maintain continuous monitoring to ensure that revenue targets are achieved.

Officials were asked to identify potential revenue sources while improving existing collection mechanisms.

Greater Coordination Directed

The Deputy Chief Minister also stressed better coordination among departments and regular reviews of collection performance.

Departments were instructed to identify areas where revenue collection was lagging and take corrective measures to improve their performance.

Officials Attend Review Meeting

Finance Department Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh and Secretary (Expenditure) Rachna Patil attended the meeting along with principal secretaries and secretaries of the concerned departments.

Officials briefed the meeting on the current status of revenue collection and their proposed action plans. The government directed departments to maintain the momentum and work towards further increasing revenue collection in the months ahead.
