Patna: A 35-year-old Bhojpuri content creator died by suicide at her home in Ara’s Anaith locality late Sunday night, hours after posting three Reels featuring emotional Bhojpuri songs on Instagram.
Sarita Devi, wife of Umesh Sharma, had more than 22,000 followers on her Instagram account, arajilasuhani55. Her videos frequently attracted thousands of views.
Police said the reason behind her death has not yet been established.
Three Emotional Reels Before Death
Before her death, Sarita posted three consecutive Reels featuring emotional Bhojpuri songs, including “Jane Wafa Tujhko Kya Dein…” and “Nindiya Na Aave Jaagi, Rowat Bani Raat Mein…”. The videos showed her with tears in her eyes.
Police have seized her mobile phone and are examining the circumstances surrounding the death.
The incident took place in Anaith under the Nawada police station area. Police reached the house after receiving information, brought Sarita’s body down and sent it to Ara Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Husband Says There Was No Dispute
Sarita’s husband, Umesh Sharma, said there had been no dispute at home and that the family had been doing well.
According to Umesh, Sarita had gone to Ara’s Ramna Maidan on Sunday with her team to shoot videos. She returned home after 8pm and interacted normally with him and their children before having dinner.
Umesh said Sarita later went to another room. Around 10pm, she was speaking to someone on the phone and told him to sleep, saying she would make a couple of videos before going to bed.
Around 3am, Umesh said he went to the other room and found Sarita hanging from a ceiling fan. He raised an alarm, following which police arrived at the house.
Five Years Of Social Media Activity
Sarita had been active on social media for around five years and was known locally for creating Bhojpuri music Reels. She also occasionally appeared in videos with her husband.
Umesh works as a carpenter and supports the family. The couple, who married in 2008, have two sons, Aryan and Vishnu.
Sarita was originally from Banghaur Narayanpur village under Agiaon Bazar police station. She had previously operated another social media account that reportedly had hundreds of thousands of followers, but it was hacked, prompting her to create a new account.
Police Begin Investigation
Nawada SHO Bipin Bihari said the Dial 112 team informed police about the suspected suicide during the night, after which officers reached the spot.
“The mobile phone has been seized. Prima facie, the case appears to be suicide,” Bihari said.
He added that further action would be taken based on statements from the husband and other family members and the findings of the investigation.
