Patna: The Bihar government has stepped up its review of major road and bridge projects, with Road Construction Minister E. Kumar Shailendra directing officials to accelerate construction and remove bottlenecks affecting key connectivity works.

The minister chaired a high-level review meeting of the Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL) on September 12, 2026. The meeting examined the physical and financial progress of major roads, bridges, flyovers and road overbridges (ROBs) being implemented across the state.

Officials were directed to complete infrastructure projects within the prescribed timelines and with high construction quality, so that people can benefit from improved connectivity and smoother transportation at the earliest.

Kacchi Dargah-Bidupur Bridge Reaches 100% Progress

The Kacchi Dargah-Bidupur six-lane Ganga Bridge, being implemented with support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), has achieved around 100% physical progress, according to the Road Construction Department.

Civil work on the toll plaza has also been completed.

The six-lane bridge will connect Sabalpur in Patna with NH-103 at Bidupur and will have a direct connection with the Patna-Bakhtiyarpur Bypass.

The project is expected to provide seamless road connectivity between Patna and areas across the Ganga, improving access to the state capital for people in surrounding regions.

Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur Bridge At 70% Progress

The Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur Ganga Bridge project has achieved around 70% physical progress, according to the department.

The Tajpur-Chaklalshahi section has already been completed. Work on the Chaklalshahi-Dumri and Bahadurpur-Karjan sections has been targeted for completion by December 2026.

The minister directed officials to speed up work on the remaining sections and ensure that the project progresses according to schedule.

Meethapur-Sipara Project Gets Fresh Push

The review also covered the Meethapur-Sipara and Mahuli-Punpun Phase-II project, which has a total length of 4.3 km.

A 2.1-km elevated road under the project was inaugurated by the Chief Minister on August 28, 2026.

Officials were directed to complete the remaining work on the Sipara ROB at the earliest after obtaining the required traffic and power blocks from the railway authorities.

Digha-Koelwar Expansion And Ganga Path Projects Reviewed

The department also reviewed the 35.65-km Digha-Koelwar expansion project, which is being implemented under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM).

Officials were directed to speed up the process of obtaining required No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and completing the land acquisition process.

The meeting also reviewed the proposed 42-km Munger (Safiyabad)-Sultanganj Ganga Path and 40.8-km Sultanganj-Bhagalpur-Sabour Ganga Path projects.

Their administrative approvals, contractor agreements and land acquisition status were examined during the meeting.

ADB-Funded Highway Projects Under Review

Several projects being implemented under Bihar State Highway Project III (BSHP-III) and BSHP-IV with ADB assistance were also reviewed.

Under BSHP-III Phase-II, strengthening and widening work is underway on six state highways — SH-95, SH-98, SH-99, SH-101, SH-103 and SH-105.

The minister directed officials to expedite pending land acquisition and forest department clearance matters.

Special emphasis was placed on SH-105 between Bettiah and Narkatiaganj, which has been targeted for completion by November 2026, including drainage work.

Under BSHP-IV Phase-I, the programme includes four roads and one high-level bridge covering 225.47 km.

Officials were also directed to accelerate the process for five proposed road projects covering 266.17 km under BSHP-IV Phase-II following administrative approval.

Darbhanga Elevated Corridor And Gaya Flyovers

The 13.17-km Darbhanga Elevated Corridor was also reviewed. The corridor is being developed to connect Darbhanga railway station with the Amas-Darbhanga Expressway.

In Gaya, construction of the four-lane Ghughritand flyover and a two-lane elevated flyover from Jagjivan College to Manpur Block Office and Falgu Bridge is progressing.

Officials were directed to maintain the pace of construction while ensuring that quality standards are followed.

Several Patna Connectivity Projects Reviewed

Several projects aimed at improving connectivity within Patna were also discussed.

These include the proposed Patel Golambar-Atal Path connectivity through Serpentine Nala, the four-lane Bhadr Ghat-Didarganj road, the Mandiri Nala-JP Ganga Path connection and the Patli Path-Nehru Path connectivity project.

The minister directed officials to address project-related bottlenecks and coordinate with the concerned departments to prevent delays.

Land Acquisition And Clearances Remain A Key Focus

During the review, the minister directed officials to maintain continuous coordination with district administrations and other departments to resolve issues related to land acquisition, forest and environmental clearances, railway blocks and electricity-related permissions.

Engineers were instructed to complete projects within the prescribed timelines without compromising construction quality.

Minister E. Kumar Shailendra said expanding Bihar’s network of roads and bridges and connecting remote areas with the state capital remains a government priority.

He also directed officials to ensure that any laxity in construction work would not be tolerated.

The meeting was attended by senior departmental officials, the Engineer-in-Chief, BSRDCL’s Chief General Manager, engineers and representatives of project contractors.
