Patna : Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) has expanded its treatment capacity to 2,500 beds following the inauguration of its newly constructed Tower 3 by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday.

The new tower has been developed as part of the hospital’s redevelopment project and includes modern facilities for critical care, surgery, maternity services, paediatric treatment and diagnostic investigations.

After inaugurating the building, the Chief Minister inspected several departments and reviewed the facilities available for patients. Officials also briefed him on the progress of completed and ongoing work under the redevelopment plan.

Paediatric ICU And Maternity Facilities Added

During the visit, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) on the fifth floor of Tower 3. The facility is intended to provide specialised care for children requiring intensive medical attention.

He also inspected the waiting area, obstetric intensive care unit, nursing station, medical rooms, treatment rooms and postnatal ward.

The facilities are designed to support patient care across different stages of treatment, including critical care and maternity services.

Modular Operation Theatre And Radiology Department Inspected

The Chief Minister reviewed Modular Operation Theatre 22 on the sixth floor of the building, along with other surgical facilities and operation theatres associated with gynaecological procedures.

He also visited the radiology department on the first floor to assess the available diagnostic facilities.

The addition of specialised clinical and diagnostic infrastructure is part of the broader effort to strengthen treatment services at PMCH and accommodate patients requiring different levels of medical care.

Kiosks And Counters For OPD Registration

During the inspection, officials briefed the Chief Minister on arrangements for outpatient department (OPD) registration, including registration kiosks and counters.

Other facilities in the building include a refreshment area and patient-support spaces intended to improve the experience of people visiting the hospital.

The Chief Minister reviewed these arrangements as part of the assessment of facilities available under the redevelopment project.

CM Directs Officials To Maintain Facilities And Improve Coordination

Samrat Choudhary directed hospital officials to improve coordination between departments so that patients do not face unnecessary difficulties during treatment.

He also stressed the need for regular maintenance of hospital facilities and prompt resolution of problems faced by patients and their families.

Officials were instructed to maintain construction quality in the remaining work under the redevelopment plan and ensure that hospital services function smoothly.

Nutrition Kits Distributed To Children

During the visit, the Chief Minister distributed nutrition kits to children receiving treatment on the ground floor of Tower 3.

Health Minister Nishant welcomed the Chief Minister with a bouquet, while Health Secretary Kumar Ravi presented a bouquet and a memento.

Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav were also present, along with public representatives, senior officials and doctors.

PMCH Redevelopment Aims To Strengthen Patient Care

The inauguration of Tower 3 marks another step in the redevelopment of PMCH, one of Bihar’s major government hospitals.

With the stated capacity now at 2,500 beds, the hospital is expected to accommodate a larger number of patients while providing specialised facilities for children, maternity care, surgery and diagnostic services.

The immediate focus will remain on maintaining the new infrastructure, coordinating services across departments and completing the remaining redevelopment work while ensuring that patients can access treatment without unnecessary disruption.
