Patna : Police in Muzaffarpur have registered a first information report (FIR) against four people over allegations that a woman’s photographs and videos were manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI) and other digital tools to create obscene content that was subsequently circulated on social media.
According to a complaint filed by the woman’s father, the allegedly manipulated material was also sent to her fiancé and members of his family. The family has alleged that the incident led to the cancellation of the proposed marriage.
The case was registered at Bela Police Station under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and other applicable laws. Police are investigating the allegations and examining digital evidence.
Woman’s Images Allegedly Used To Create Manipulated Content
According to the complaint, the woman was pursuing postgraduate studies in 2023 when the accused allegedly obtained her photographs and videos.
The complaint alleges that the material was later manipulated using AI and other digital tools to create obscene content. The accused allegedly used the woman’s photograph to create a fake social media profile and circulated the material alongside purportedly fabricated chat screenshots.
The authenticity and origin of the allegedly manipulated content are being examined as part of the investigation.
Content Allegedly Shared With Fiancé’s Family
The woman’s family alleged that the material was circulated on social media and sent through WhatsApp to relatives and members of her fiancé’s family.
According to the complaint, the circulation of the content caused reputational and emotional distress to the woman and her family. They alleged that the proposed marriage was called off after the material reached the prospective groom’s family.
The allegations have not yet been established in court.
Cyber Cell Examining Digital Evidence
Four siblings from the Sahebganj police station area have been named as accused in the FIR, according to the complaint.
Police, with assistance from the cyber cell, are examining social media accounts, mobile numbers and other digital evidence to establish how the content was allegedly created and circulated.
Further legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation. The accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
