Patna: Prof. (Dr.) Jyoti Prakash, professor and Head of the Department of General Medicine and registrar at All India Institute of Medical Sciences Patna, has been conferred the Fellowship of Diabetes India in recognition of his contribution to diabetes care, research and medical academics. The honour was presented at the World Congress of Diabetes & Obesity 2026, held from February 13 to 15 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre in Hyderabad.
The fellowship was awarded on February 13 during a gathering of leading diabetologists, researchers and healthcare professionals from India and abroad. The event, organised under the aegis of Diabetes India, is regarded as a major scientific forum that focuses on evolving strategies, research innovations and policy frameworks related to diabetes and metabolic disorders.

According to organisers, the recognition honours Prof. Prakash’s sustained efforts in clinical service and academic leadership, as well as his role in promoting research-driven approaches to diabetes management. His work has centred on strengthening patient-focused care and improving outcomes through evidence-based practice and community engagement.
Under his leadership, the Department of General Medicine at AIIMS Patna has expanded diabetes management protocols and outreach initiatives aimed at serving patients across Bihar and neighbouring regions. These programmes have sought to bridge gaps in access to specialised care while encouraging preventive healthcare practices.
Members of the AIIMS Patna fraternity described the fellowship as a moment of pride for the institution, saying it reflects the growing academic and clinical stature of the institute at national and international levels. The award also underlines the increasing role of public medical institutions in advancing research and policy dialogue on chronic diseases such as diabetes in India.
