Patna: The Department of Orthopaedics at AIIMS Patna successfully organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on “Basic Knee Arthroscopy” on Saturday, focusing on strengthening the knowledge and technical skills of postgraduate students and senior residents in one of orthopaedic surgery’s most dynamic fields.
Participants from leading institutions, including IGIMS, PMCH, Ruban Memorial Hospital, and the Anup Institute of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, took part in the training. The day-long programme featured didactic lectures, video demonstrations, and hands-on practice sessions, offering an in-depth understanding of arthroscopic instrumentation and surgical techniques.

The CME was led by Prof (Dr) Sudeep Kumar, Organising Chairman, and Prof (Dr) Anup Kumar, Organising Co-Chairman. The faculty team included Dr Balgovind S Raja, Dr Ritesh Pandey, Dr Avinash Kumar, and Dr Prabhat Agrawal from AIIMS Patna; Dr Manish Kumar from IGIMS, Patna; and Dr Ravi Kumar from CISRO Hospital, Patna.
Delegates responded enthusiastically to the interactive sessions, praising the blend of theoretical insights and practical exposure. The course focused on improving the foundational understanding of arthroscopic procedures, a key skill set for future orthopaedic surgeons.

Highlighting the department’s continued commitment to surgical excellence, AIIMS Patna officials said the institution regularly performs knee and shoulder arthroscopic surgeries and aims to extend its expertise through such academic initiatives.
“With this CME, we seek to train the next generation of surgeons who will cater to the increasing demand for minimally invasive joint surgeries,” said Prof Sudeep Kumar.

The event concluded with a renewed emphasis on clinical learning and collaboration across institutions, underscoring AIIMS Patna’s role as a centre of excellence in orthopaedic education and patient care.
